This article explains briefly a study of language based on a critical paradigm. A critical study of language is not just a study of the structures of a text but a study of the institutions that shape the various wasy to give meaning to language. The basic premise is that there is no single meaning in a text but a potential of many meanings some of which are prevelaged for social cultural and political reasons. Discourse analysis is not only an analysis of a text structure beyond sentence level but also an analysys of how the text works withim sociocultural practice. The critical paradigm is recognized as one which better answer communication phenomena in modern industrial society that is full of ideology politics and power domination and determinnation.
