This reseach is intended to determine whether or not there is a correlation between linguistic competence and pragmalinguistic competence and speaking competence either seperately or simultaneously.The reseach was conducted from september to december 1993. The population was the students of the english Departement of FKIP UNS and the sample was 40 students taken using cluster sampling tecnicue. The data which were the scores of achievement of the three variables above were collected through test. The tecnique of data analysis applied here was the tecnique of regression and correlation. the result of analysis shows that there is positive correlation between linguistic competence and pragmalinguistic competence and speaking competence. either separately or simultaneously.
