In the present works the adsorption process of Cr metal by C. calcitran have been investigated by comparing the metal adsorption ability of living algae to that of its freeze-dried biomass. The amount of metal adsorbed on both C. calcitran and its biomas was calculated from the difference between the eguilibrium concentration of the metal added and its coresponding original concentration in the medium which was obtained from the result of oppropriate atomic absorption spectrophotometric determination. The result show that biomass of C. calciitran has an adsorption ability of 0 93 mg/g for Cr which was significantly higher than the adsorption ability of C. calcitran giving value of 0 17 mg/g for Cr.
