In this article authentic activities refer to activities that would be performed by a chemistry student. They are deemed authentic because the persons performing the activities are preservice teachers. The Investigation in Chemistry for Teachers course at Southwest Missouri State University was redesigned 1999 to integrate these teaching approaches and issues with the training of preservice chemistry teachers.
