The aim of this paper is to acquaint the English teacher to the competence-based English curriculum the school-based curriculum or it is so called the curriculum of the unit level of education of Kurikulum Tingkat Satuan Pendidikan (KTSP) and the communicative Approach in language teaching. The goal of teaching English stated in this curriculum is similar to that of the goal of teaching English stated in the communicative approach that is to achieve communicative competance. To see the similarities of the goal of the competency-based curriculum and the communication approach this paper will delineate the competency-based curriculum and its components the communicative approach in language teaching in all of its dimensions and how to obatain the communicative competence as the goal of English language teaching.
