Backhousia citriodora F. Muell. 'Pohon Sereh' dari Negeri Kanguru



Backhousia citriodora (Lemon myrtle) belongs to Myrtle family which occures naturally throughout coastal Queensland rainforest. It is a spectacullar ornamental tree due to both its appearance and the super fragrance of its flowers and leaves. The leaves and flowers are used in sweets and savoury dishes or as a refreshing tea. However as boiling are baking often reduces the flavour the leaves are best added to the recipe at the end off the cooking process and either left to steam with the lid on or made into a sauce or dressing. Enthusiasts describe the distilled oil from this tree as more lemon than lemon and its used extensively to scent confectionery perfumes aromatherapy oil and food flavourings.
