Ficus dammaropsis Diels - Pohon 'Buah Naga' dari Tanah Papua



The dinner plate fig Ficus dammaropsis Diels (family Moraceae) is tropical fig tree with giant leaves. It is native to New Guinea. The tree can reach 4-10 m tall. The thick leaves are deeply veined and wavy. It is cauliflorus the figs can get to be the size of a baseball with numerous red or yellow coriaceous lateral bracts so it is very similar to a dragon fruit. The general usefulness of this plant is as an ornamental plant but the fruit and young leaves of which are eaten by indigenous people of New Guinea.
